Update on dysplasia

Cecilia was diagnosed with hip dysplasia, occurring in 0.4% of births, at birth. Occurring most commonly in first born females, the ball sockets of Ceci's hips did not develop properly in utero due to her frank breech position. She has worn a Pavlik harness since she was three days old. Our last orthopedic appointment at 4+ months gave us some good news allowing us to wean Ceci off the harness. The ultrasound showed the sockets were fully corrected. We went to see our chiropractor, Dr. Brian, on Thursday and he is going to work with us to ensure her gross motor skills develop properly. She now automatically assumes the 'ballerina' position when out of the harness and we don't want her to walk before her leg positioning can correct itself. This will be done through lots of crawling.
